With that in mind, how do you gain confidence for a portrait session? The answer comes from understanding the intimate nature of photography.

A photoshoot is about more than pressing the shutter button. I wish it were that simple.
When I shoot with my clients, I’m acutely aware they are (often) spending time in the presence of a stranger, which can be daunting.
That’s why choosing the right photographer – someone you can communicate your fears and ideas to and place your trust in – is essential.
Being photographed can feel confrontational, especially when we look back at the resulting images. The process forces us to see ourselves as others do, which can be both uncomfortable and enlightening.
However, it’s worth remembering that photoshoots aren’t a panacea for resolving deep-seated self-esteem issues. They offer a unique opportunity to see ourselves through someone else’s eyes.
After all, the images we receive from a shoot are visual representations of the photographer’s perception of us, capturing who they think we are in a way we seldom see ourselves.

Choosing a portrait photographer goes beyond aesthetic and artistic preferences. It’s about finding someone whose values and process resonate with you, as their approach will influence your experience and feelings towards the final images.
Confidence is a muscle that needs to be exercised. Waiting to feel confident before booking a photoshoot might mean waiting indefinitely.
You can feel elated and empowered by participating in a photo shoot, especially with the right photographer.
