Bringing Your Brand to Life: The Top 5 Storytelling Photography Styles

23/10/2023 Posted by Martin Bamford Ideas, Photography

Sometimes, when scrolling through our social media feeds, we land on an image that stops us in our tracks. These ‘scroll stoppers’ tell a story, evoke an emotion, and build a connection.

As a professional photographer, I’m passionate about the power of storytelling. Visual storytelling is a highly effective tool for small businesses that need to elevate their brand visibility.

Every business should have five main types of images in its arsenal.

1 – Behind the scenes

People love to see the human side of a business. Candid photos of your team, workspace, or product creation can help create transparency and trust.

When capturing behind-the-scenes photos, I like using natural light to add authenticity to the image.

2 – Product in action

Showcasing your product in a real-life scenario can help prospective customers visualise its value.

Capturing moments that highlight the primary benefit of your product can tip a customer from prospect to commit. Remember to show the emotional benefits of your product in action, too.

3 – Portraits

It’s time for small businesses to move beyond headshots. Portraits are designed to show the faces behind the brand, making your business more relatable.

Opting for candid rather than posed shots can create a more genuine feel when using portraits. Mixing formal and informal portraits is usually advised.

4 – Lifestyle photography

Show off the lifestyle that accompanies your brand. For example, a shot of someone savouring your brew on a rainy day can create a brand ambience if you’re selling artisanal coffee.

Make sure you align lifestyle photos with your target audience’s aspirations.

5 – Event photos

If you host or attend events, document them!

Photos taken at these events show that your business is active and engaged, whether it’s a workshop, product launch, or community event.

Capture moments showing interaction and excitement to convey the energy of the event.

Every photo has the potential to tell a story, and the right images can compellingly tell your brand story.

By investing in these types of visual storytelling, you’re showcasing more than your products and services; you’re building a powerful narrative that resonates with your target audience.

Don’t let your brand languish in the shadows. Tell your story today with impactful photography. Get in touch to get started.
