When you’re planning a portrait or brand shoot, it’s easy to feel nervous about the process.
You might be wondering what to wear, how to pose, or even whether you’ll feel awkward in front of the camera. That’s perfectly normal.
But here’s the good news: my job is to make it feel easy. From the moment you get in touch to the moment you receive your final images, I’ll guide you through every step so you can relax and enjoy the experience.
I work with individuals, small businesses, and charities across Cranleigh and the Surrey Hills. Every shoot is different, because every person and brand has their own story. But the process of working with me stays simple, calm, and focused on what you need.
Getting Started: The First Conversation
Everything starts with a chat. Whether you contact me by phone, email or through my website, I’ll always begin by asking a few simple questions.
What are you hoping to get from the shoot? Is it for your website, social media, or a special event? We’ll talk about your goals, ideas and concerns, and I’ll explain how I work. If we’re a good fit, we’ll find a date that suits you and plan what comes next.
There’s no pressure and no jargon. I’m here to listen and understand what you want.
The better I understand your requirements for photography, the better we can plan our time together and deliver exactly what you need.
Planning Your Shoot
Once we’ve confirmed the booking, I’ll help you prepare. We’ll talk about locations, outfits and timing. If you’re a business owner or a charity, we’ll also explore how your images can support your message or campaign.
For portrait sessions, I often suggest local spots around Cranleigh and the Surrey Hills. Whether it’s a quiet woodland path, a village street, or even your own home, I’ll help you choose a location that feels right.
If the shoot is for your brand, we might include your workspace, products, or some behind-the-scenes action. The aim is to create images that reflect you and what you do.
If you’re unsure about anything, I’m just a message away.
On the Day: What to Expect
When the day of the shoot arrives, we’ll meet at the agreed location and take a few minutes to settle in.
You don’t need to be a model or know how to pose. I’ll direct you gently and work with you to create natural, relaxed images. Most people tell me they forget they’re being photographed after the first few minutes.
I work in a calm and friendly way, whether I’m capturing a quiet portrait or a lively team event.
If we’re doing a branding shoot, I’ll also look for the little details – the tools you use, the way you interact with clients, the textures and colours that define your style.
There’s no rushing. I always leave enough time so you don’t feel under pressure. And if you need a break, that’s fine too. My aim is to make you feel comfortable, so you can be yourself.
After the Shoot: The Editing Process
Once the shoot is over, I’ll head back to my studio to start reviewing and editing your images.
Depending on the assignment, I’ll either get straight to editing, or send you a preview gallery so you can select an agreed number of photographs for editing.
I take time with this stage, selecting the best shots and editing them with care. I don’t use heavy filters or dramatic effects. I want your images to feel honest and timeless.
You’ll receive a private online gallery, usually within a couple of days. From there, you can view your photos, download them, and share them as needed.
If your shoot includes prints or extra edits, we’ll arrange that together.
Many of my clients tell me that seeing their final images is the best part of the process. They often feel more confident, proud of what they’ve created, and excited to use their photos in new ways.
What It’s Really Like
Working with me is relaxed, personal and thoughtful. I won’t rush you or push you into anything that doesn’t feel right. My goal is to understand who you are and what you need, and then reflect that in your images.
Whether you’re a solopreneur building your brand, a family marking a special moment, or a charity promoting your work, I’ll help you tell your story through pictures that feel true to you.
