Let’s be honest. You’ve probably met a few photographers. The ones who hide behind their cameras, mutter a few words about “finding the light,” and then vanish into editing mode for a week. Perfectly fine, but not exactly memorable.
If you want someone who brings more to the shoot than a camera bag and a playlist of moody indie tracks, that’s where I come in.
1 – I’ve Actually Had Another Life
Before I ever picked up a camera professionally, I spent twenty years as a Chartered Financial Planner. I helped people make sense of pensions and investments, popped up in the national newspapers most weekends, and made a few memorable appearances on BBC Radio 4 trying to make compound interest sound exciting.
It taught me how to read people, how to listen, and how to help others feel at ease. Those skills translate beautifully into photography.
When I photograph you, I can tell if you are nervous, overthinking, or about to relax, and I’ll know exactly how to bring out your best side.
2 – I’m a Photographer Who Understands People
Anyone can take a sharp, well-lit photo. What matters is the connection.
I pay attention to the small details. The slight shift in posture when you start to feel comfortable. The flicker of confidence that appears when you stop posing and start being yourself.
I know when to talk, when to make you laugh, and when to stay quiet so you can breathe.
I’m not just taking your photo, I’m helping you look like the version of yourself that everyone else already sees.
3 – I’ve Got Mud on My Boots
When I’m not photographing people, I’m usually out in Knowle Park, working as a part-time ranger. It’s a 60-acre country park and nature reserve in Cranleigh, and I help look after the trees, wildlife, and footpaths.
I organise volunteer sessions, plant trees, and sometimes get tractors stuck in the mud.
I love being outdoors, and that love of nature runs through my photography. I know how to find beautiful light under trees, how to make a cloudy morning work in your favour, and how to create portraits that feel grounded and real.
4 – I Actually Give a F***
I’ve been involved in charity and community work for years, as a trustee, organiser, and volunteer. I believe in using my time and skills to make things better for others. That attitude shapes everything I do.
Photography, for me, isn’t just about pictures. It’s about people. Whether I’m working with a local business, a charity, or an individual who wants to feel confident in front of the camera, I want every shoot to mean something.
5 – I Don’t Take Myself Too Seriously
I’ve been live on the radio, I’ve photographed people in torrential rain, and I’ve dealt with the occasional curious cow mid-shoot. Very little surprises me now.
I’ll make you laugh, I’ll talk nonsense about lighting, and I’ll make sure you forget how much you used to hate having your photo taken. You might even enjoy it.
So yes, I know how to use a camera, but that’s not what makes my work stand out. What matters is that I understand people.
I know how to make you feel comfortable, confident, and completely yourself. That’s when the real magic happens.
If that sounds like the kind of experience you want, come and find me.
