The Win-Win of Volunteering: Boosting Brand Visibility & Making a Difference

11/09/2023 Posted by Martin Bamford Ideas

Three scorching days under the September sun, a constant buzz of activity, and a heart full of gratitude. That’s how I’d summarise my experience volunteering at the Surrey Hills Wood Fair 2023 with Surrey Hills Enterprises.

As the sweat dripped and my feet ached, an unexpected realisation hit me – not only was I contributing to the smooth delivery of a fantastic event, but my brand was getting an immense visibility boost.

How does spending hot days volunteering boost brand visibility? Let’s delve into this win-win scenario.

Authentic Engagement with the Community:

When you volunteer, especially at large community events like the Surrey Hills Wood Fair, you’re directly engaging with the community.

People see your commitment, passion, and your willingness to give back. This engagement isn’t about making sales or pushing a product; it’s genuine and heartfelt.

And believe me, people remember that.

They remember the brand that stepped up, not just with funds (in the case of events your business sponsors), but with time and sweat.

Practical Tip:

Wear your brand. Whether a t-shirt with your company logo or a cap with your brand’s tagline, it serves as a conversation starter.

People get curious, and voilà, you have an organic moment to talk about what you do!

Creating Shareable, Relatable Content:

In today’s digital age, content is king. And what’s better content than showcasing real stories, struggles, and impacts?

Documenting your volunteering journey – the highs, the lows, the challenges, and the triumphs – gives you a plethora of authentic content. This isn’t just another marketing campaign; it’s a narrative of change and contribution.

Practical Tip:

Carry a camera or use your smartphone. Capture candid moments, behind-the-scenes snippets, and the impact of the event.

Share these on your social platforms with a heartfelt caption, and watch as it resonates with and engages your audience.

Building Long-Term Relationships:

Volunteering introduces you to like-minded individuals and organisations. These aren’t just fleeting connections; they often blossom into long-term partnerships.

Collaborative projects, joint ventures, or simply having a reliable network can significantly boost your brand’s reach and reputation.

Practical Tip:

Don’t just volunteer and leave. Follow up.

Send a thank-you note to the organisers, connect with fellow volunteers on LinkedIn, and actively participate in post-event discussions.

Remember, relationships are the cornerstone of any successful brand.

To Wrap Up:

Volunteering is so much more than just doing good. It’s about growth, visibility, and creating a brand rooted in authenticity and community welfare.

Don’t wait for the next big event. Start now. Look for local community initiatives or events where you can volunteer.

Not only will you be making a difference, but you’ll also be building a brand that stands out, resonates, and is remembered.
