Photography on the street
I had to drive into Guildford this afternoon to capture some video footage for a client, so I took the opportunity to practice a little street photography in the High Street.
Adding to the dynamic was a sudden downpour of rain, with thunder rumbling away in the distance.
I love the street photography approach but it takes a huge amount of confidence to snap candid photos.
After a while, I started feeling better tuned-in to the emotions of those around me and spotted this chap happily singing and dancing in the rain as he walked towards me.
Street photography is significantly easier when the subject is walking away from you. There’s more time to frame your subject and fire off a couple of shots without the fear of being ‘caught’.
Another option I found this afternoon was sheltering from the rain in a doorway, framing up a photo with an attractive background, and then waiting for a suitable subject to walk into the frame. For this photo, I used the reflection of the windows on either side of me to see when someone was coming.
