5 Simple Design Tips For Small Business Marketing Success

21/11/2022 Posted by Martin Bamford Ideas

Design is an integral part of any marketing strategy, regardless of the size of your business.

However, designing effective marketing materials can be challenging when working with a limited budget and few resources.

But don’t worry – with these five simple design tips, you can create marketing materials to help you succeed!

1. Keep your branding consistent across all marketing materials

Consistency is vital when it comes to your branding.

If you’re consistent with your design, you become more memorable.

There’s a principle in marketing called the ‘rule of seven’ that states a potential customer must see a message at least seven times before they are ready to take action.

If they see seven slightly differently designed marketing messages from your business, your brand will be less memorable and, therefore, they will be less likely to take your desired action.

Using a consistent palette of colours, typeface (font), and layouts will help drive consistency into your content marketing design.

Go a step further by compiling a simple brand standards document, where you write down how every piece of content you produce should look and feel.

2. Use high-quality images and graphics

So often, the bad design we see in content marketing results from using poor-quality images.

Resolution matters. If you are using tiny files scaled up to fit the size of your chosen content, they will look fuzzy or pixelated.

Use high-quality images and graphics in everything you do.

This challenge usually starts with your logo.

Suppose the logo file you’re using isn’t infinitely scalable without losing resolution (the technical term for this is a vector). In that case, you need to find a graphic designer to get it redrawn.

When choosing photos or other graphics to include in your content, ensure they are high quality and suitably large enough.

The quality of your chosen images goes beyond file sizes; make sure they are quality images too!

Using cliched and cheap-looking stock images to populate your content will likely reflect poorly on your brand.

Choose quality, original photography that supports your customers’ feelings about your business.

3. Focus on Your Target Audience

Design with your intended audience in mind.

Our key message here at Bear Content is to start with your target audience.

Once you know what makes your perfect customer tick, you can tailor the design of your content accordingly.

You want to ensure that the materials you create are relevant to the people you’re trying to reach.

Creating materials that speak directly to your target audience will help increase your marketing efforts’ effectiveness.

4. Highlight Your USP

When designing content for your small business, be sure to highlight your unique selling proposition (USP).

What makes your business different from the competition? Why should potential customers choose you over someone else?

Answering these questions can help you to develop a strong USP that you can use in your marketing materials.

Keep the design of your content simple and resist the temptation to clutter designs with too many messages. One is plenty.

5. Enlist help if needed!

If you’re not confident in your design skills, don’t be afraid to seek help from professionals who have more experience in this area.

With a little effort, you can create marketing materials that will help promote your business successfully!

Design is essential for your small business, and with these five tips, you can take the design of your content marketing from zero to hero.

Good design will make your content more visually appealing, making people want to read it and take action.

In addition, good design will help you convey your message more effectively and connect with your audience on a deeper level.

So what are you waiting for? Start incorporating better design into your content marketing today!
