Cranleigh Lions Classics on the Drive

06/09/2020 Posted by Martin Bamford Just for fun

“May you live in interesting times” is an English expression that purports to be a translation of a traditional Chinese curse.

We certainly live in interesting times right now.

This weekend should have been the annual Cranleigh Classic Car Show, attracting thousands of visitors from across the region to enjoy a display of hundreds of classic cars and bikes.

Instead, because of Covid-19 restrictions, the Cranleigh Lions had to come up with an innovative alternative.

Cranleigh Classics on the Drive saw more than 60 classics displayed on private driveways across the village, before coming together for a parade along the High Street in the afternoon.

Instead of concentrating visitors in one venue, the Lions did a wonderful job of keeping everyone socially distanced and injecting some much-needed life back into the village.
